Announcement of open calls for the positions of the members of the Scientific Council and the Director of the HFRI

The Scientific Committee of the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) will soon announce two open calls for scientists of international academic stature and experience to submit their candidacy for:

a. the nine-member Scientific Council

b. the position of the Director of the Foundation. 

The detailed calls will be posted on the websites of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) (http://www.gsrt.gr/), the Ministry of Education, Research, and Religious Affairs (www.minedu.gov.gr, erevna.minedu.gov.gr), as well as at Euraxess (https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/).

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by the candidates for a seat on the Scientific Council by 25th of January 2017, and by candidates for the position of Director by 28th of February, 2017.

The members of the Scientific Council will have a four - year term of office, must be scientists of great academic stature, who are distinguished internationally for their research and substantial experience in Science Policies.

Regarding their formal qualifications, candidates must:

  • hold a Ph.D
  •  have been successful scientific supervisors of research projects, granted after a National or International competitive review process
  • have documented prior service and administrative experience in managing Research at Higher Education Institutions and/or Research Centers (domestic or international)
  • have substantial corpus of international distinguished scientific work, published in monographs or original publications in international peer-review journals
  •  have a working knowledge of the Greek language

The Director, who will have a four-year term, must be a scientist of international stature, with administrative experience, distinguished scientific activity, and a broad vision, knowledge and understanding of important developments in Science and Research.

As for the formal qualifications required, these include:

  • a Ph.D. degree
  •  publications record in monographs or original papers in journals of international stature
  • a successful experience as scientific supervisor of research projects
  •  documented and extensive management capability and experience at domestic or international research institutions, or in the private sector
  • working knowledge of the Greek language

The candidates must not exceed the age of 63 at the time of submission of their candidacy.

A qualification that will be considered in favor of the candidate   for both seats is the support of the candidacy either by Higher Education Institutions and Research Centers (under law 4310/2014 art. 13a) who participate with their representatives in the Foundation’s General Assembly, or by the members of the National Council for Research and Innovation (NCRI). 

It should be noted that the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI), founded by law 4429/2016, is a non-profit, private law legal entity. It belongs to the broader public sector and operates to the benefit of the public interest, specifically by supporting PhD students, post doctoral fellows as well as research activities carried out in the Higher Education Institutions and Research Centers of the country.
