Seminars for refugees on studying in Europe held in ancient Olympia
The Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the Council of Europe and with the participation of the philosophy faculty of the university of Athens, is organising a summer academy entitled “Beyond the Refugee Crisis – Studying in Europe”. The aim of the programme is to introduce young refugees to university education programmes and admission requirements in Greece and other EU countries.
Forty students will be enrolled in the programme, two-thirds refugees and one-third their peers studying at Greek universities.
The summer academy will be held between 18-28 August, and participants will be hosted at the facilities of the International Olympic Academy in ancient Olympia, in the Peloponnese.
The programme includes seminars in European Civilisation, language lessons (Greek and English), workshops on human rights and the democratic status of the citizen, as well as presentations and discussions regarding the academic offering of European universities.
The programme also will feature athletic and cultural activities, and a one-day field trip. The language for both lessons and activities is English. Professors and other educators will be both from Greece and other European countries, so as to present a broad, multi-faceted image of Europe and its political and educational culture and institutions.
